The Backstory

Open Ear has been partnered with the Mexican restaurant group Wahaca for over 9 years. They promise to deliver on the universality and integrity of flavours in Mexican cuisine through the way they source products and run the business. They were also the first UK restaurant group to be certified as Carbon Neutral and have been awarded the most sustainable restaurant group four times.

What We Did

Over the course of that time we have worked with Wahaca we have evolved alongside the brand. Initially, the music was predominantly Latin, albeit with a westernised lens, and tracks were selected to appeal to an open minded customer who welcomes a fun, modern and fresh experience. Around four years ago, the founders adjusted the brief to include a balance of westernised and latin music, mostly ranging from contemporary left field pop, electronica, beats and soul.

The mood in their restaurants is light and enjoyable, creating an atmosphere not unlike that of a Mexican food market. It pairs with the staging and the decor of the room to create a fully immersive dining experience.

Wahaca are a great example of how sound is an important piece of the puzzle but not the only one - we pride ourselves on integrating the music into the core brand and space. We continually communicate with clients to ensure the music is evolving with them because change is necessary to keep a space feeling fresh. “We’ve loved working with the Open Ear team. They have brought an amazing vibe to our restaurants with music choices that help us bring to life the inspiration we’ve found in the markets of Mexico in a way that works perfectly for a contemporary British brand.”
