Falling Or Flying Jorja Smith

The follow-up to 2018's ‘Lost & Found’, the sophomore release from Jorja Smith finds her expanding her palette of influences into a broader genre mix. The result is an album alive with ideas that provide a sturdier foundation for Smith’s vibrant R&B vocals. Tracks like ‘Little Things’ groove on subdued instrumentation allowing Smith’s vocals to play the hooks, elsewhere ‘GO GO GO’ is driven by an ardent vocal take while a simple guitar riff works in conjunction with studied use of drum fills to keep things tight. There’s a brief guest appearance by J Hus on the Afrobeats-leaning ‘Feelings’ but the album highlight goes to the ballad ‘Broken Is The Man’, a vocal workout that’s all too short as it barely runs over two minutes in length.
