Reconfiguring her Indie guitar sound into Synth Pop, Pip Blom takes a big stride into a buoyant future as ‘Bobbie’ is filled with a renewed vibrancy. Adding a subtle groove to proceedings lends weight while Pip Blom’s vocals gain an enticing assertiveness thanks to rich production from co-writer Dave McCracken. It’s not all synths however, as ‘Where’d You Get My Number?’ couples fuzzed electric guitar to the synth rhythms on a rawer Rock orientated number, while ‘Fantasies’ builds on a clicking drum beat and propulsive bassline on a tension-filled track that threatens to erupt at any moment. The album highlight, ‘Is This Love?’, takes a funky guitar backing and subtle electronic touches to craft a joyful singalong with guest vocals from Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos.
