The sophomore release from the ascendent Neo Soul star finds Mahalia in a confident mood and rightly so. Working with JoJo on ‘Cheat’ and Stormzy on ‘November’, the best tracks are reserved for solo spots where Mahalia’s delivery feels even more intimately diaristic like flawless voice notes to herself. On tracks like ‘Isn’t It Strange?’ Mahalia’s flow stands out as she lets loose in a stream-of-consciousness style while the more delicate ‘Lose Lose’ finds her vocals layered and accompanied by looping acoustic guitar on a singer-songwriter cut. The standout however, is ‘Terms and Conditions’, a high polish Pop R&B stomper setting the rules for a prospective partner, that follows in the vein of classics by TLC and Destiny’s Child.
