Guy Jayda G

As personal an album as they come, ‘Guy’ was created to honour Jayda G’s father, William Guy, and is based on a series of recordings he made for his daughter before he passed away when she was just ten years old. Filled with House, Disco, and R&B, ‘Guy’ is an uplifting listen that nonetheless tackles intimate, emotive subject matter. Featuring tape button clicks and interspersed with Guy’s spoken word clips, the album also prominently features Jayda G’s warm, inviting vocals throughout. Given the subject matter, ‘Guy’ is a remarkably Pop sounding album, filled with strong beats, catchy choruses and earworm melodies. A celebration of memory, family, and living a life of growth, as best exemplified on album highlight ‘Scars’; ‘Guy’ is a triumph of the power of Pop.
