Having begun as the long-running house band to the eponymous Speakers Corner open mic night at Brixton Jamm, the Quartet have been at the locus of Jazz and Hip Hop for over a decade. Having provided backing to any number of greats, from The Roots to MF DOOM, they’re here with their debut album featuring a coterie of vocals and guest players. Sliding effortlessly, track to track, from beats and instrumental loops into more organic, exploratory Jazz, the Quartet prove the perfect foil for Sampha on ‘Can We Do This?’, Tirzah on ‘fix’, and Kae Tempest on album highlight ‘Geronimo Blues’. Elsewhere they’re joined by Shabaka Hutchings on a track that’s all too short while Mica Levi joins for the epic closer. This is a debut that has been worth waiting for,
