London Ko Fatoumata Diawara

Brimming with energy throughout, Fatoumata Diawara’s third album ‘London Ko’ finds her in top form as she is joined by a host of collaborators. The Malian singer and guitarist showcases her chops on a suite of Afrobeat, Rock, and Funk cuts that push both to the centre. While Damon Albarn joins on six tracks, lending both synth and vocal duties, it’s her African collaborators like M.anifest and Yemi Alade that provide the highlights. Elsewhere, Diawara leads all by herself on tracks like ‘Dambe’ which delivers a sprightly Dub rhythm as perfect, low-key accompaniment to Diawara’s absorbing vocals. At her finest when guitar and vocals come together on ‘Dakan’, Diawara has produced a kaleidoscopic album worth repeat spins.
