I Hope You Can Forgive Me Madison McFerrin

The daughter of Bobby McFerrin and a fellow a cappella singer, Madison McFerrin here releases an album of grooving Soul Jazz with frequent nods to Electronica. The addition of beats and band based instrumentation is a strong addition to McFerrin’s sound, particularly on tracks like ‘Utah’ where electric guitar elevates the track to a crescendo finish. This, in turn, allows the a capella tracks like closer ‘Goodnight’ to retain power, standing out rather from the whole rather than shrinking the palette. The result is an album with strong vibes, like on ‘OMW’ that stand alongside more dramatic tracks like ‘Run’, a darkly atmospheric collaboration with father, Bobby McFerrin.
