& The Charm Avalon Emerson

The debut long-player from Techno producer and DJ Avalon Emerson is here, and it is filled with warm Electronica, Balearica, and chilled House completed by Emerson’s own vocals. As far as pivots go, it’s significant and it is pulled off with aplomb. From the funky bass line of ‘A Vision’, which channels classic French House, to ‘Astrology Poisoning’’s vocal which lines up with the Indie Pop of Self Esteem, ‘& The Charm’ confounds expectations and delivers one of the finest records of the year so far. While nominally a Pop leaning record, there’s a depth to the textural palette on ‘& The Charm’ that separates it out as a unique work from the leftfield, perfectly in keeping with the times and yet utterly it’s own thing. A joy throughout.
