Voice Notes Yazmin Lacey

After three EPs that have picked up big name fans such as Questlove, the debut LP from Yazmin Lacey is here to further spread her convivial brand of Neo-Soul. Musically diverse and adventurous yet never straying towards anything that could be overwhelming, the warmer tones of Jazz, HipHop, Afrobeat and Dub permeate each track with dynamism and curiosity. The star of the show is Lacey’s captivating vocals which have the same enrapturing quality of greats like Erykah Badu and Sade; filled with a nuanced languorousness that draw you ever closer. The dubby Lovers Rock of ‘From A Lover’ is a particular highlight, slow and sleepy with hints at a sunbeam peeking through closed curtains while ‘Tomorrow’s Child’ flashes back to Morcheeba’s Skye Edwards.
