Radical Romantics Fever Ray

Better known as the voice behind The Knife, Karin Dreijer has been performing solo as Fever Ray for over ten years and this latest solo release is more closely aligned to the work of The Knife than previous solo outings. Built on Dreijer’s dynamic vocals and impressive range, ‘Radical Romantics’ unwinds itself, slowly providing deeper insight as it evolves. Notable moments include ‘Kandy’ which features warmer, more organic drums and bass than the crisp sounds most familiar from Fever Ray or The Knife. There are, of course, more experimental moments such as ‘Even It Out’, produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, which begins to feel like a warped contemporary take on The Slits. It’s an album standout, as is slow creep of the Peder Mannerfelt produced ‘Tapping Fingers’ which bristles with suspense.
