Cracker Island Gorillaz

The latest from everybody's favourite animated band is a concise and glistening foray into Synth Pop and Disco. As star-packed as always, ‘Cracker Island’ finds Damon Albarn joined by Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, Beck, and Bad Bunny. The latter stands out from the rest thanks to his Spanish language vocals, though the easygoing vibes meld perfectly with the overall tone of the album, adding a twist just when things could have become repetitive. ‘Skinny Ape’, an Albarn solo vocal take, is a highlight that shows there’s still life in the alter-ego concept while the title track is sure to take a prime position in a future Greatest Hits as Thundercat’s bass and backing vocals demonstrate the way Gorillaz have succeeded in having carefully chosen guests help raise their tracks to higher levels, time after time.
