Bubblegum Biig Piig

At less than twenty minutes run time across seven tracks, the debut long-player from Biig Piig is succinct and curated with precision. Singing in both English and Spanish Jessica Smyth’s vocals slide effortlessly between disaffected bedroom Pop and locked in autotuned Pure Pop mode. ‘Bubblegum’ also effortlessly blends synthy tracks with guitar-based numbers, dropping into late 00s Art Rock on ‘In The Dark’ and into SynthPop on ‘Kerosene’. It comes together cohesively with an overarching nonchalance while the short running time ensures there’s no room for filler. All too short, ‘Bubblegum’ feels like a precursor of more to come from Biig Piig and on this showing, we’re in for a treat.
