The sophomore release from Beabadoobee finds her expanding her sound into a quieter, more subtle soundscape built off a predominantly acoustic guitar backing. The focus, as on her debut, is on Bea Kristi’s vocals which are used as much as an instrument as they are a driver of narrative. Among the acoustic softness are detours into Bossa Nova on ‘the perfect pair’, a full on rocker on ‘Talk’ and an upbeat Pop number, ‘tinkerbell is overrated’ which features PinkPantheress. Dreamy and easy-going, it’s easy to be swept under Beabadoobee’s spell as wistful, contemplative and assured vocals capture vignettes that drift by, one by one.
