Phases Moonchild Sanelly

A genre-defying double LP, ‘Phases’ is a bold, enticing, and absorbing step towards global fame for Moonchild Sanelly. Having previously featured on tracks by Beyoncé and Gorillaz, here she steps out on her own, crafting 19 tracks that draw from Amapiano, Gqom, Grime,House and R&B. While the first half starts off with forceful and immediate tracks like ‘Demon’ and ‘Strip Club’, the latter featuring Ghetts, the second half gets into deeper cuts like ‘Jiva Juluka’ that step back from Pop moves and instead reorientate towards DJ mixes, giving the album more of an air of an extended mixtape. It’s an accomplished set that delivers big tracks throughout.
