Forfolks Jeff Parker

The former Tortoise guitarist returns with a solo suite of guitar tracks that borrows as much from the history of Ambient music as it does from Jazz. By first laying down and looping brief sketches turned into atmospheric riffs, Parker rides free crafting solos that chase, accentuate and transform his loops into altogether more expansive textural works. Where some tracks lean more towards Jazz, most obviously the endearing rendition of Thelonious Monk’s ‘Ugly Beauty’, others veer in more left field directions. ‘Excess Success’ draws as much on CAN as it does on Miles Davis’ ‘Sketches of Spain’ and is a worthy album highlight.
