Jubilee Japanese Breakfast

Album number three from the artist, writer, and musician Michelle Zauner finds her in jubilant form but lacking none of the wit, pathos and inventiveness of previous more downbeat releases. Like a sigh of relief that turns into laughter halfway through, ‘Jubilee’ is born from a difficult place but captures the complicated and immediate nature of a moment of joyous respite, of hope and of looking forward to unimagined futures.

Diving fast through a variety of influences and genres, ‘Be Sweet’ hits buoyant shiny 80s Pop while ‘Kokomo, IN’ channels the Twee Pop of Belle & Sebastian. Elsewhere, ‘Slide Tackle’ is a blissful contemporary lounge track filled with soul and is undoubtedly the standout highlight of an album worth spending time with.
