ALICIA Alicia Keys

Album number seven finds the multi-Grammy winner in a self-assured position. The result is a self-titled album that, like its forebears, is personal, empathetic and affecting. Featuring several top producers and the exceptional musicianship we’ve come to expect from an Alicia Keys album, ‘ALICIA’ is bold in its nuances yet still an understated affair. Keys has long mastered the skill of making imminently human Pop music and that’s the case here. ‘Wasted Energy’ features a Reggae beat while Keys plays it straight, avoiding the urge to change her typical cadence. Elsewhere, Keys is joined by top name collaborators like Jill Scott, Sampha, Miguel, and Khalid. Bringing things to a close, ‘Good Job’ is the intimate, reassuring motivation many of us need in this lingering, socially distanced world right now. It will be hard to avoid many of these tracks, but even those that don’t end up as singles are well worth your time.
