Breathe Deep Oscar Jerome

Another bright light on the South London Jazz scene, Oscar Jerome has provided his expert guitar work to tracks by KOKOROKO and Moses Boyd among many others. Here, on his debut album, we get to hear him stretch his talents and his lungs as he leads a collection of R&B influenced Jazz that leans towards the more accessible side of the burgeoning scene. That’s not to say that there’s a lack of quality or musicianship on display. As displayed on ‘Gravitate’ where skittering percussion and a shimmering Soul guitar riff backup Jerome’s elegant vocals, ‘Breathe Deep’ is bold, nuanced and enticing. While ‘Fkn Happy Days ‘N’ That’ is joyous, the beautifully stripped back duet with Lianne La Havas ‘Timeless’ is both an album and late summer highlight.
