Waking Hours Photay

Described by its author as a “meditation on stillness”, ‘Waking Hours’ is the second album from Photay and its aim is to inspire. It’s an album of varied pacing that places itself between House and Electronica with forays into Ambient and Pop. Lean rather than minimal, there’s momentum here on tracks like ‘The People’ which hits with Disco vibes. The second half of the record is most overt in concept as ‘Rhythm Research’s Ambient Electro Pop brings vocals reminding us of our talents for multi-tasking while ‘Pressure’ sardonically quips of having “purpose, not worthless” to a string backing and simple piano chords. It’s a surprising highlight.
