The first major release from Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge’s new label ‘Jazz Is Dead’, is also the first major release from Jazz legend Roy Ayers in 18 years. Very much a collaborative work, the music here features a large cast of instrumentalists and pulls as much from Ayers’ trademark vibraphone-led Jazz as it does from more modern, R&B flavoured vibes. Other collaborations may appear more like fleshed out demos, but ‘Jazz Is Dead 002’ is a fully realised deal as each grooving track flows into the next.
