Eve Rapsody

While Rapsody’s previous album ‘Laila’s Wisdom’ was Grammy-nominated, it’s important to note that ‘Eve’ is a step up from that release. More cohesive with a refined sound, ‘Eve’ is a resolutely individual album of top class Hip Hop. Each track is named after an inspirational Black Woman; Nina Simone, Oprah Winfrey, Aaliyah, Michelle Obama and features collaboration from J Cole, Queen Latifah, D’Angelo and GZA. There’s no doubt, however, that this is Rapsody’s project. ‘Hatshepsut’ gives Queen Latifah one of the more prominent guest spots as she takes the second half of the piano driven track to lay out an inspirational verse of unity and empowerment. ‘Serena’ is fittingly an absolute banger; bold, confident, and controlled. While ‘Sojourner’ is Rapsody’s most powerful statement. Following on from a tumultuous and heartfelt J Cole verse, Rapsody lays it all out in a cut throat verse that takes on the world of Hip Hop and beyond.
