Peerlessly singular in sound, ‘Flamagra’ follows in the footsteps of Flying Lotus’ previous releases in its genre-melding sounds that pull as easily from Hip Hop and the leading edge of beat-making as they do from Jazz and Pop. There is a decidedly Funk-driven strain to ‘Flamagra’ however that doesn’t just stem from guest tracks. Nowhere is this more clear than on the frenetic yet groove filled instrumental ‘Takashi’, though ‘All Spies’ stands out as the highlight.
