Strays Margo Price

Opening with spacey Rock guitar amp feedback hum and electric organ, ‘Strays’ immediately displays a broadening of horizons on Margo Price’s fourth release. Drawing on classic Americana and Country Rock, Price draws on the common dolefulness of those genres while contrasting with her own sense of optimism and grounded wisdom. There are familiar influences, from Neil Young vibes on ‘County Road’ to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell collaborating on ‘Light Me Up’. Elsewhere, Sharon Van Etten joins on ‘Radio’ and the affecting tale of destitution, pregnancy and bodily autonomy ‘Lydia’ acts as a fine, sombre highlight.
