The Work Gold Panda

It’s been some time since the last Gold Panda release and the wait has been worthwhile as ‘The Work’ serves up a mix of calmly bubbling Electronica that variously glistens and radiates good times. Built on scattered percussion, solid kicks, and sampled atmospherics and rhythms, ‘The Work’ is a collection of fluid textures that sits in a liminal space; at once both engaging and cocooning. At its most minimal, like on closer ‘Joni’s Room’, the soundscapes are exercises in ambient atmosphere, while elsewhere ‘I’ve Felt Better (Than I Do Now)’ is a club-ready cut with a solid 4/4 beat and rhythmic sampled vocal snippets. The highlight is the twisting part harp, part synth rhythms of ‘The Dream’ that manages to be glitchy yet elegant all at once. Balancing divergent, often conflicting moods and elements, ‘The Work’ is a welcome return from Gold Panda.
