As Above, So Below Sampa The Great

The latest from Sampa The Great is an unapologetically confident treatise on self-respect that features some key collaborations but hits its highs thanks to the bold talent of its star, Sampa Tembo. Having left Australia for Zambia in recent years, ‘As Above, So Below’ was recorded in just a few weeks with an exceptional cast of African producers and musicians including Chef 187, WITCH, and Angelique Kidjo. Drawing more heavily on Zamrock and Gospel than on last album ‘The Return’, Sampa crafts a suite of tracks that hinge on her bold raps but allow space for exceptional backing vocals and expert musicianship, none more so than on album closer ‘Let Me Be Great’ featuring Angelique Kidjo. If this is the album where Sampa Tembo steps up and takes full ownership of her moniker, then we’re sure even more greatness is still to come.
