Ali Vieux Farka Touré & Khruangbin

Vieux Farka Touré, the son of the legendary Malian guitarist Ali Farka Touré, is joined by the psychedelic, genre agnostic Houston trio Khruangbin on a remarkable collection retelling and interpreting Farka Touré senior’s most recognisable tracks. A fitting tribute to the man most responsible for popularising African guitar music with western audiences, ‘Ali’ finds Vieux’s prodigious talent balanced perfectly by Khruangbin’s solid, grooving backing. As one of the most successful ‘out there’ bands going, Khruangbin’s touch no doubt contributes to ensure this is an accessible listen while never appearing constrained. Reportedly recorded live in just one week, ‘Ali’ may leave some of the source material almost unrecognisable but really that’s not the point. By continuing a legacy of remarkable guitar work, listeners are sure to clamour for future collaborations between these perfectly paired musicians. GRAMMY’s await.
