Sometimes, Forever Soccer Mommy

The latest from Soccer Mommy is a bold step into a more expansive sound with the help of Daniel Lopatin, better known as Oneohtrix Point Never, on production duties. Working through a palette of ennui, isolation and discouragement, ‘Sometimes, Forever’ mixes guitar- driven Indie with solid percussion and fragmentary electronic soundscapes crafted by Lopatin. Album highlight, ‘Unholy Affliction’ stands out as a Portishead-like mood piece with driving percussion, lingering, longing vocals, and stripped back guitar bridges, while ‘Don’t Ask Me’ lifts liberally from the driving guitar riffs of Dinosaur Jr. The result is an album that delves into the mood and themes of early 90s Indie and Grunge but with a decidedly modern aesthetic.
