While the initial flourishes of writing for what has come to be ‘Radiate Like This’ began in 2018, distance, personal projects, and the slowing pace of a band approaching their 20th year together means the gestation for Warpaint’s fourth album has been six years in the making. That’s no bad thing as ideas came together piece by piece, often over distance, imbuing their already spacious dream-pop with a reassuring sense of pacing throughout. Those familiar with the Warpaint sound are well catered for with ‘Stevie’, in particular, capturing their laid-back sound while branching out with the addition of a Soul-infused groove from the rhythm section. Elsewhere, album highlight ‘Hips’ turns the pace up and adds a steely edge while retaining their flitting, cycling psych-leaning tendencies.
