Fragments Bonobo

The latest from Bonobo was drawn out from fragments of ideas, collaborations with Miguel-Atwood Ferguson, Jordan Rakei, Jamila Woods and others, and the influence of bass-heavy club tracks. It’s a heady mix made all the more surprising that it didn’t originate alongside the momentum of touring but instead in the relative quiet of locked down studio time. Featuring the warm, soulful Electronica that has made him a standout in his field, ‘Fragments’ doesn’t find Simon Green resting on his laurels. Instead there’s a stronger kick throughout, starting with a 4/4 pulse on ‘Shadows’ featuring Jordan Rakei through the O’Flynn collab ‘Otomo’ to the delightfully chilled ‘Tides’, the centre point of the album featuring Jamila Woods on vocal duties. Album highlight ‘Age of Phase’ has a splintered vocal and fuzzing bass hits alongside a sprightly percussive undercurrent. It’s a future ear worm sure to make its way into a lot of mixes this summer.
