Rosie Lowe/Duval Timothy Son

As multi-talented musicians and artists, this collaboration between Rosie Lowe and Duval Timothy likely could have taken many varied paths. Not easily pigeon-holed, ‘Son’ is a spacious, abstract and textural exploration of voice as instrument. Lacking many clear vocal narratives, Lowe’s vocals harmonise, layer, skat, and provide both rhythm and melody over the course of an all too brief nine tracks. Accompanied by piano and double bass, but scant percussion, the sound is enveloping, human and soulful, expanded further by the environmental sounds and resonant spaces in which it was recorded.
