ALPHA Charlotte Day Wilson

The debut album from BADBADNOTGOOD and Kaytranada collaborator Charlotte Day Wilson is a spiritual exploration of self and a deft exercise in restraint that borders on minimalism. Day Wilson’s captivating vocals centre proceedings while instrumentation ranges from subtle electronics to sparse keys and acoustic guitar. Crossing through the intersection of R&B, Pop, Gospel and Soul, ‘ALPHA’ brims with inventive and emotive detail. The self-assuring Electronica of ‘Keep Moving’ plays like a stripped down club track, while the grooving R&B of BADBADNOTGOOD collaboration ‘I Could Only Whisper’ has a Balearic chill to its light guitar rhythms. Album standout, ‘If I Could’ is a Gospel tinged epic, part valediction, part confessional that leaves the subject, lover or self, tantalisingly ambiguous.
