New Long Leg Dry Cleaning

An engrossing listen from the opening bass riff intro, ‘New Long Leg’ is Post-Punk with forty years of retrospection and a now now now contemporary attitude. Marked by its spoken word vocals delivered first person by Florence Shaw, the album unfolds as a series of impressionistic yet highly observational vignettes.

From the most mundane “cleaning the fat out of the grill pan” to the telling “never talk about your ex, never… slag them off, because then they know” to the more tenuous “are you taking a photo or drinking a bottle of water?”, there is a joy and revelry in the use of words and language that marks ‘New Long Leg’ apart from most guitar-based contemporaries. Poetic yet natural, Dry Cleaning have produced a vital album that is likely going to be highly influential.
