The Last Exit Still Corners

The fifth album from the Dream Pop duo takes a conceptual slant as Still Corners channel the classic Americana theme of the open road on ‘The Last Exit’. Featuring sparse synths, acoustic guitar strumming and washed out, hazy vocals the mood is subdued and considered but airy rather than dark or overly mournful. While overall there is no clear-cut influence, individual tracks, textures and pacing variously channel Echo and the Bunnymen, Everything But The Girl, and Chris Isaak vibes.

It’s a surprising mix but one that operates fluidly within the wider context of the steady drift from track to track. In that regard, the concept is well executed and there are enough variations on the theme to make returning to this album an easy choice.
