Apron EP Byron the Aquarius

Nominally an EP, once a pair of bonus tracks are added in, Byron the Aquarius graces us with nearly 50 minutes of Jazz, Electro, Hip Hop and Broken Beat wonderment on ‘Apron’. Built from vocal samples, synth and organ melodies, and grooving bass lines ‘Apron’ is a twisting, weaving spacey voyage. Yet what’s likely to stand out is not the looping, layered synth rhythms and melodies that provide the main thrust of the tracks. Instead, the sonorous, tactile and razor sharp crispness of the percussion is likely to arrest and captivate as it provides a canvas for everything else to rest on. Where so many programmed drums are left murky and flat, Byron’s exemplary production allows each note to leap as live. ‘Apron’ is a transportative beat-driven classic.
