Civic Jams Darkstar

Crafted pre-pandemic and before our current lockdown, ‘Civic Jams’ nonetheless has an apt resonance. Intend as a response to the flood of closed venues and shuttered communal spaces over the last few years, Darkstar create a sound that long for the shared spaces that once helped to propel our culture forwards. Musically, there’s an atmospheric ennui bred by the opaque melodies and slimmed down, rigid beats. It’s all held together by a surprisingly strong bass that cements the rest of the album and prevents it from ever appearing lackluster. ‘Civic Jams’ is dance music for when the clubs are shut and it couldn’t be more timely.
