Sad Happy Circa Waves

A quick turnaround for the Liverpudlian Indie rockers, who dropped their last album less than twelve months ago. ‘Sad Happy’ comes in the expanded form of a double album which opens with anthemic Indie, filled with riffs and breezy choruses, before turning to darker mid-tempo cuts which stray from the earlier riffs and choruses formula. More a tale of two distinct albums than contrasting sides of the same, the ‘Happy’ side offers the most immediate moments, though the synths of ‘Hope There’s a Heaven’ is a highlight of the ‘Sad’ side of this ambitious release. Clearly not afraid to take a risk, ‘Sad Happy’ is an expansive new avenue to Circa Waves’ sound.
