The Slow Rush Tame Impala

On ‘The Slow Rush’, Kevin Parker sets out to create an album filled with timeless inspirations in a genre-less collection that is far more-beat orientated than previous outings. While still retaining the multi-tracked, digitised vocals and turned up reverb of his earlier Psych Rock releases, his Pop leaning melodies are now accompanied by a different flavour of groove-based rhythm. Defined Hip Hop beats underpin tracks like ‘Borderline’ while House piano riffs are the defining feature of ‘Breathe Deeper’. Elsewhere, ‘Lost In Yesterday’ most effectively pulls this new explorative direction together with Tame Impala’s more familiar sound as guitar and drums are accompanied by electronic flourishes into an easy flowing jam with warm, casual vibes. ‘The Slow Rush’ is a mid-career stylistic side-step executed perfectly.
