The Anthology Omar

An original of British Neo-Soul, Omar has an enviable musical history having worked with greats like Stevie Wonder, Robert Glasper and Erykah Badu. Yet he has never achieved the widespread recognition of contemporaries like Sade and Soul II Soul. This career spanning retrospective collects his finest work stretching back to the early 1990s and takes in Soul, R&B, Jazz and much in between. While his big name collaborations stand out, so do his early tracks like ‘Music’ and debut single ‘There’s Nothing Like This’ with its warm bass rhythm underpinning his expressive vocals. Elsewhere he’s joined by his brother, the Scratch Professor, on ‘Bully’ where Jazz and Hip Hop meet as brass and breaks provide perfect backing for an energetic turn. It shows a career of accomplished musicianship that, as later tracks prove, show no signs of slowing down.
