Tangerine Shanti Celeste

The debut full-length from Shanti Celeste, released on her own Peach Discs label, is a buoyant album of Detroit Techno influenced not-quite-club tracks. While ambient cuts open and close the album, the general pace is leisurely yet retaining momentum. The rhythms, often based on solid kicks and precise snares and hi-hats, create a focused foundation for the overall compositions which tend towards the explorative. The colourful and inviting melodies are where ‘Tangerine’ shines brightest like on ‘Want’, the closest to a summer anthem here, which draws from Jungle influences. Elsewhere, highlight track ‘Aqua Block’ runs on steely synths, though thanks to delicate tones underneath it comes over as rounded and organic.
