i,i Bon Iver

Less experimental than the abstract titles suggest, ‘i,i’ is a warm Indie record with delicate and sympathetic use of electronics. Featuring familiar Bon Iver collaborators like Aaron Dessner of The National, who appears on several tracks, James Blake, and Bruce Hornsby, there are also surprising guest producers like Wheezy brought into the mix.

Very much an album built in the studio, the prominence of vocals as the binding structure means its relative simplicity should crossover well to live environs. At its heart it’s most minimal moments work best. The solo piano and multi-part vocal harmony of ‘U (Man Like)’ is a case in point and exactly the kind of considered, impactful Indie we need in 2019.
