If you’re in Manchester this weekend then the place to be is definitely the Museum of Science and Industry who are holding a Silent Disco with a twist. First off, it’s completely family friendly which sets it apart from the usual Freshers’ Week shenanigans usually associated with the headphone-based parties. Second, it’s all in the name of science.

As a joint venture with researchers from the University of Amsterdam and a part of the current #HookedOnMusic ‘citizen science’ project, it’s designed to allow researchers to investigate how people interact through rhythm, taste, and musical preference. There will be three channels of music on offer, and even the act of selecting a channel will be valuable information for the scientists.
